Old Master, New Vision

Old Master, New Vision was taken during a two-and-a-half year project on the art of Hieronymus Bosch and his contemporaries. It was photographed within the context of his art. I was using the concept of an old master, his work, life, and the world around him, to create a new vision for today’s world and interspersing it with 500 years of discussion and interpretation. Viewing just a small slice of an Early Netherlandish painter’s work unfurls the existing template of a Dutch painting one has in the mind’s eye. It allows you to ‘see’ the piece in its entirety. In that sense, it is able to be visualized and construed in many different ways - the ability to use your mind to complete the painting will result in a different vision depending on who sees the photograph.  This is a digital archival photograph, sublimated to aluminum, measuring 18" x 14".
